I'll be making an announcement about this board late tonight/early tomorrow morning.
Mojo may be gone, but our community won't be.

Wow, I cannot believe that they just ended it that way... no "hey this is what we were thinking" or anything. Ive been lurking (and occasionally posting) at the forums since 2004, so its crazy that they just ended it like that.
Shawn or Impact, did you guys get any more of the story about what led to this decision, or are you in the dark as well?

The mods were left totally in the dark like us all, which makes this even more gross.

Man, just glancing at the IMDB forms, they really suck. I know they would never do this for business reasons, but it would be cool, at least as a token for all the time the forum members spent on the site, to put a link to this forum so people know where all the regulars actually are posting

Well BOM, we love you still. Not really. I loved BOM because of the Derby and the foruns. Now, it is just another site with box office results...

well, that sux. i liked the forum cos it was clean and simple. i've read it almost daily. it was all about discussion on film. this forum is ok, but gifs and animations are annoying. they derail the discussion..

What was already a very hectic set of events is now rather chaotic right now for me...so I'm going to take a breather, get a bite to eat, and come back to start figuring out what's going to happen this board. I'll be on intermittently, but if anyone is on AIM I'll be on there as well and will try to respond when I can. name: boxofficetheory

Ehh the weekend numbers going back to 1982 are what made it so big for me when they added that in 2001. Plus the do have more info then any other site. (And we can view all the pages now) Also-its the 2nd best site for films to me next to the IMDB.

I was a regular member on BoxOfficeMojo and when i learned the news, I was so sad, I almost started crying. This sucks! But at least we have this site! Let's keep it clean and accessible so all the BOM users may have permanent home now. We kind of became a famoly, we all share the same hobby and we are movie lovers. We bond as we type and I can't believe living without someone to talk about movies. Someone like you guys. So maybe you may say I'm a noob and newby and everything, but I've read your posts daily and without even talking, I felt like a family member .... So, without making my post to long, Maybe we should do a petition or something to have a link posted on IMDB for a token of their 'appreciation' for us being devoted members... For my parts, I'll post a link to the forum almost daily, I'll try...

Wow, pretty shocked. I've taken a break from BOM for the last few months but I thought it would always be there - the forums I mean.
Still, it's great that we have this place - I like that you can post pics/gifs.

I'm pulling Shawn's BOT quote because it represents how I feel about the issue. BOM just pulled, "...one of the most despicable displays of customer service I've ever seen from a website."
I had a feeling that when Brandon and Sean left and Amazon took over stuff would start to change. I guess this is a delayed reaction. I still can't believe, especially with Ray's active interest in the forums, that no one- not even the moderators- was warned about this. It's downright nasty behavior towards what was one of the biggest online film communities on the internets. I'm upset, and some have spent the last decade of their lives on those boards.
...Unless this was an issue where they actually lost all of the forum/derby data and they're trying to cover for it by announcing its retirement. That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of, other than IMDB/Amazon being mean for the sake of being mean.
The one good result of the death of BOM's forums is the Premiere Pass thing. That's pretty cool stuff.

I do agree with that part Gopher about the PP part. Though sadly the all time domestic chart is screwed up right now to only view the top 100.

That actually was there when I first joined. But when the PP came you couldn't do it anymore.

I know some of you have been on that site MUCH longer than I have, but I've checked the boxoffice forums daily for the past 5 years and the fact that its just gone sucks. Luckily, I found out about this from Shawn's site but this is going to take a long time to rebuild. Its good to see a lot of the more frequent posters are here but still, it just feels weird.

Is there any other sites that offer a Derby Style Game?
Why would they end it? What would be the reason? It still had 400-600 people playing every week which is very good

BoxOfficeTheory should really integrate MojoRefugees. With that, we could make our own community and continue the legacy that the forums of BOM has established. Shawn, we're all behind you dude. And if you need something, you always ask me here, or on twitter

We were getting more players then ever before. Should've kept it running for just one more weekend, I would've done well on last weekends game, but now I'm stuck with the awful memory of only getting like, 70% on my final game. Fucking disgrace. It was like my BOM goal to win the derby at least once.

Now that I've had time to little it simmer for a couple hours, I have to say I'm really fucking pissed. What a dick move on their part. For fuck's sake.
There was hundreds of regular posters at the BOM forums! And even more regular participants in the Box Office Derby!!!! They just took us out like a torpedo, no warning, no explanation, just like that. What a sham.
