As an eighteen year old and unbiased when it comes to predictions for films, I'm very surprised at the supreme lack of buzz surrounding the film. I once thought this would end up being the highest grossing Twilight film, but now I'm 99% sure it will definitely go lower than New Moon.
There is absolutely NO buzz whatsoever surrounding this.
WOM won't be hot. This will really hurt BD2. DH2 didn't increase 7-8m in admissions just because of the finale factor and buzz. DH1's strong WOM definitely played a factor.
I don't want to underestimate BD1 like I did for Eclipse ($282m), but I'm so tempted to predict $265m.

I don't think 265 is very realistic. How do you judge lack of buzz? Who are you speaking to in order to judge this?

1. None of my friends who were excited to see New Moon/Eclipse have even bothered talking about the film.
2. I'm in college, people always end up talking about upcoming films at one point or another. War Horse, Jack & Jill, PIB, etc, but no one has even mentioned BD1.
3. The hype just ISN'T there. This is indisputable. I mean...I can scarcely believe the film is coming out in less than two weeks...

It's indisputable? OK. LOL.

I don't think it's indisputably going to disappoint. It's just a gut call here. Maybe because the book was notorious for disappointing fans.

To be honest, it's hard to accurately measure "buzz," but it's easy to see if advance sales are up to the level of Eclipse. In my area (SE WI), BD is lagging way behind. Some theaters don't even have a single midnight sellout yet. Truthfully, I'm more concerned about the lack of leaks about BD's quality. The film has screened and even though there is an embargo, crypic positive comments would be leaking out by now if the film was any good. Major Twilight websites saw Eclipse early, too, and there were all sorts of leaks saying it was better than expected/best of the series. Those sites are silent about BD1.

Admittedly I'm not part of the Twilight crowd, but it really feels like there's a lot less coverage of this than normal. I remember New Moon and Eclipse being hyped up the wahzoo and I'm just not seeing it this time.

Most of the people I hang out with don't like Twilight, but I felt a lot more hype for New Moon and especially Eclipse. The few times Breaking Dawn is mentioned, it's always accompanied by a "How the hell are they going to pull that one off?"

I said it's indisputable that hype for this is lower than either film, not that it will undoubtedly disappoint.

I'm not that excited for the film personally, I don't think I'll bother seeing it opening day like I did with the last two (probably OW though). If Breaking Dawn had been just one movie, I would be much more excited. It's just the first half of the book (and there are so many cringe-worthy moments in the first half), I think I'll be much more hyped for Part 2 as it'll be the final movie and I think that movie will be better as well.
I reckon it'll finish around 270m - still great for Summit.

Yeah, it's yet another film that we have to get passed in order to see the finale. I would have preferred just one movie, but if Harry Potter can have two movies for the last installment of the book then so can Twilight.

And I think it's ridiculous we have to wait another year to see Part 2 - I think that could hurt them, especially if the reception for Part 1 isn't that great. They've dragged the franchise on too long, people are moving on.

Moving on to what exactly? I can't see the typical Twilight fan moving onto Superheroes any time soon.

My new obsession is Game of Thrones. +1 GoT changed things for me this year. I'm anticipating season 2 so much. Anticipation for movies/tv shows in 2012 goes something like this. The Hobbit Part 1 Game of Thrones The Dark Knight Rises Bond

There is a large lack of excitement over here in Australia too for BD1, my cinema has barely sold out one session, while we had 5 going for HP7.2, with 3 sold out and another 80% full. I wasn't around here when Eclipse was out, but i can check up on that next time i'm in.
So i'm going for 115/275 in the US.

Ah, how BD1 will probably pale horribly when compared to DH1.

Ah, how BD1 will probably pale horribly when compared to DH1. As long as there isn't an interminably boring camping scene interrupted by the most out of place, embarrassing dance scene, I'll be happy.

The dance scene is probably my second favorite scene in the series...it's so adorable! But, the dance is a love/hate thing, but thankfully, more love.

All the press people who've seen it have said fans will really like it and that it's close to the book. Some went beyond and have said they really enjoyed it and that's it's the best one yet. But no major leaks/spoilers from the fan sites.
I think Summit is holding back on advanced fan screenings as compared to Eclipse. So that's why we're not hearing much. With all the leaks from this movie earlier in the year I think they're trying to avoid too much information from getting out there.

rainbowtrout, I never pegged you as a Twilight fan. What did you think of BD (the book)? Didn't like it at all. The "climax" between the Cullens vs The Volturi was beyond lame. It almost defies explanation that you use four books to build up to that moment and then absolutely nothing happens, lol. My favorite book (and film) of the series was Eclipse and I also really liked the Bree Tanner short story. I guess I'm one of those rare people that like both HP and Twilight.
