To be exact depending on it's hold i think it could be the strongest non-holiday hold for a super-saturated film (3000+ theatres)
Here is the top 20:
1. Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (55.6%) - Christmas 2005 2. The Wild Thornberry's (22.5%) - Christmas 2002 3. Night at the museum (20.8%) - Christmas 2006 4. The Blind Side (17.6%) - Thanksgiving 2009 5. Fun with dick and Jane (14.9%) - Christmas 2005 6. Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (8.7%) - Christmas 2001 7. The Prince of Egypt (4.1%) - Christmas 1998 8. Bolt (1.4%) - Thanksgiving 2008 9. Shrek (0.3%) - Memorial Day 2001 10. True Grit (-1.7%) - Christmas 2010 11. Avatar (-1.8%) - Christmas 2009 12. Brother Bear (-4.5%) - Early November (non holiday) 2003 13. How the Grinch stole christmas (-5.4%) - Thanksgiving 2000 14. National Treasure (-8.5%) - Thanksgiving 2004 15. Yes Man (-8.8%) - Christmas 2008 16. Meet the Fockers (-9.5%) - Christmas 2004 17. Happy Feet - (10.8%) - Thanksgiving 2006 18. The Tale of Despereaux (-11.6%) - Christmas 2008 19. Flushed Away (-11.7%) - Easly Nov 2006 20. Rocky Balboa (-13.0%) - Christmas 2006
It's quite interesting cause the next 3 or 4 films are all releases from early november frames...... in fact the first film in this list no from christmas, thanksgiving and early nov frame (remember PIB was 1 week earlier than this) is shrek of course and then the following 2 films:
26. Taken -16.8% 27. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs -17.4%
So if Puss does pretty much stay flat... it will be highest non holiday hold for a super-saturated film. To make matters even worse, you should actually take Brother Bear out of this picture as it's not apple for apples. Brother Bears first weekend was only 2 days (opened on a saturday) stunting it's total for that weekend hence it's 2nd weekend drop was all but flat.
makes this hold very impressive. Additionally dropping the limit to 2000+ theatres, and only The Sixth Sense (-3.4%) and the fugitive (-5.6%) have similar holds from similar higher totals.
impressive indeed!

Heh I bet a lot of people didn't even know PIB opened last weekend, so they're getting to see it now. But, wow, at that drop (or lack thereof)!
