There was this contest that only I and this girl signed up for to win a trip to Antarctica. To summarize it all, I was WAYYYYYYYYY more qualified than her. My principal picked her, and i'm pretty sure it's because he hates me (I complain about the school daily because it sucks).
Tomorrow morning I'm going to ask him why he thought she was better and I'm also going to say what she did today on Facebook. (Someone posted a comment on her wall saying "So how mad was travod?" and she liked it, and then she randomly messaged me and said "hehehe")
Then I'm going to ask for NYC's department of education contact information to file all the complaints I've had bottled up inside, like how he treats the teachers, how one of my classes is in the filthy lunch room, and how he refuses most requests for AP classes.
Then the open house for 8th graders is that night and I'm in group that walks parents around the school. I'll be in a pretty bad mood and I'll feel like being brutally honest.

Why do you want to go to Antartica?

Question: How can the school afford to send a student to Antarctica? And, yah, I mean why would anyone want to go there. Seems kind of cold.

It's a scholarship called "Students on Ice" and our school is allowed to send one student. In January, that's when the trip is, it's like 20 degrees there which is just about what New York City is like.
I'm just kind of baffled. My planned life has so much to do with international travel, politics.... and this girl wants to be a physical therapist.

In other people's eyes, that girl might be way better than you. Just because you think you're superior to her, doesn't make it so.
Obviously you're a pain in the ass for the principal. It was his choice, live with it and move on instead of threatening to file complaints and ruining 8th grade open house. Yeah, that really shows everyone the wrong person was selected.

Maybe if you hadn't been so annoying. It sucks that you're not gonna be able to go and I feel for you, but let's be honest, no one in this world likes a constant complainer who whines. I know it's on the behalf of the school, but complaining everyday is just ridiculously annoying.
A lesson learned: don't complain all the fucking time.

Your young, so let this be a lesson to you. No one likes a whiner or a tattle tale either. When making decisions like this, schools will choose the student who will most positively represent the school.
You'll find in your working life, the 'best qualified' don't necessarily get the promotions either, those who make an effort to be likeable to the decision-makers (the boss) and fit into the company culture do.

Yeah, being a whiny bitch doesn't really get you anywhere in life. No way would I have picked you if I were principal. It might be unfair, but you'll have to deal with it.

I do not want to sound like an ass but why make such a big deal about this? Sure, you can complain to your friends that she was picked over you.
First off, not many schools can afford to send a student to Antarctica. By grateful that you had the opportunity. Maybe he did have his reason why he picked her over you. Just because you think she is not better candidate does not mean that she is not a better candidate.
Why ruin the 8th graders open house? Just because you did not get what you wanted?
I feel for you it sucks when you really want something and do not get it but if you make this big deal about and complain it only going to hurt your image at the school You will most likely not be picked by things the schools does and it might hurt your chance if your high school does a scholarship for college.
Just think in NYC alone there are thousands of people homeless and there students at your school who go to bed hungry every night and your complaining about not going to Antarctica.
Lastly, learn to have a good attitude about things like tell her congratulations. If you have a good attitude about these things it will help you in the long run instead making a huge deal and always complaining.

Guys, you seem to assume he complains in public, all the time. Granted, he probably does. But it's a chance he goes to this forum to vent, and only vents in this forum.

No, he can be dramatic. But he shouldn't act surprised as to why he wasn't chosen when it is blindingly obvious he's definitely terribly annoying to the principal and school. Sorry, travod, if I sound rather harsh, but PLEASE let this be a lesson learned. Don't be such a whiner.

Part of succeeding in life is knowing how to suck up to the right people. It sucks but if you want that job promotion or if you want to win that school competition it just has to be done. My suggestion is to start mending fences with the principal (even if he is a douche) and take a life lesson out of your experiences.

My suggestion is to start mending fences with the principal (even if he is a douche) and take a life lesson out of your experiences. Everyone here is right. People like people with an upbeat positive image. This girl might have been very outgoing and well-liked by a lot of administrators. She might be an overall nice person. Now, nice doesn't mean letting people walk over you. No one likes a push-over either. But, people do like someone that is positive and outgoing and who keeps their complaints to the minimum unless it truly is necessary. I do agree though that having a class in the lunchroom is a bit unfair. I wouldn't call that ideal learning conditions. That is an example of something worth complaining about. However, it is not good sportsmanship to throw a huge pissy-fit when someone is chosen over you. In the future build-up your image. It sounds like you have the brains and smarts. Now, start applying that to your social life. And, be mature.
