Paramount's PUSS IN BOOTS snatched the top spot at the box office with $34 million. Summit's THE THREE MUSKETEERS felt the sword in its second weekend, dropping 60% with just $3.5 mil. Total is now $14 mil. www.facebook.com/ercboxoffice

Bad weekend. Puss really needs to hold well next week to make up for this. Without the snow storm I think it probably would have topped $40m, but even that would have been disappointing after MTC indicated a potential $50m+ opening.

It definitely is bad weekend for all openers and I thought this weekend was going to be bigger than last weekend or it could have stayed flat and helped october to the record but now it seems like it's gone. And it's dissapointing for DW now they only have 2013s HTTYD 2 to build a franchise, cuz as I know Shrek is dead franchise now.

Pussy flopped. Surprising.
Well I hope this encourages DW to keep the KFP franchise going despite KFP2 decreasing domestically.

Definitely a disappointing opening for Puss, but I'd wait to see how it holds next weekend before making a judgment on its success. Combined with the snowstorm, halloween, World Series, and late release date shift, it's entirely possible that many would simply rather see it next weekend.
Though with DW's franchises both disappointing this year, it definitely doesn't bode well for Madagascar 3.

To prove that this weak OW is because the snowstorm, halloween, World Series, and late release date shift, Puss has to make 25M+ next weekend.

Indeed, there are a lot of factors that explain this crappy opening. Next weekend we can expect a drop as sexy as Antonio Banderas' voice.
