We're making a lot of progress, guys. I'm not running behind so much as simply discovering a few new things to take care of in the setup process, but as things stand we are on target for the new forums to go live on MONDAY!
I had hoped and kept aiming for a Sunday launch, and that's not totally off the table yet, but I'd rather overestimate than underestimate the amount of time and things left to configure.
Keep in mind that things WILL still be in a constant state of minor change even once they go live, but I want to ensure that -- overall -- everyone will have a great, uninterrupted posting experience when we move over permanently.
I'll try to have another update on here sometime Sunday evening as well. Until then...  [/color]

Please don't take this the wrong way, Algren, as I don't mind that its posted on this particular board since things are incredibly loose...but this is a perfect opportunity to use as an example of the kind of links that shouldn't be posted publicly on the new forum. In movie vernacular: if BOM was rated PG, the new forum will be a fairly lenient PG-13. But that kind of public link is definitely R territory. Just a heads up for everyone to remember. Of course, what do you send in private messages will be between you and who you send it to. What, no porno?  Ok, I get it. I didn't realise. May I just ask, though, why is the new forum PG-13? I mean, I can understand BOM putting a restriction on their forums, because they're vying for more business and vulgarity would deflect potential customers, but your forum is not financially motivated, so why the need for any restriction? This is by no means an attack either, I'm just pondering this notion. |

Shawn have the donations met the target? Sorry I haven't been able to update this in more detail, but yes we did meet the target goal! We have enough to cover forum expenses right now, but anyone that was planning on donating and still wants to are more than welcome as that money will be saved toward the future upkeep and upgrades, or any unforeseen costs, to the board and its host. I'll have more on this after the forum launches tomorrow. But again, thank you to everyone who has donated so far! You've really helped make this possible. |

Looking forward to a new forum with slightly relaxed rules. But please don't relax them too far or you wind up with a place that alienates many potential members. Keep it PG-13 with a sensible limit on animated gif sizes and quantity and it's allll good.
