Crowd report for Puss in Boots:
Puss in Boots Saturday at 2PM (I think) About 50% full, but this theater is rarley ever full.
Trailers:
The Lorax: Looks GREAT. Tons of laughs. Audience loved it. Happy Feet 2: Uggh. Laughs from very young kids. Arthurs Christmas: Great reaction. Looks funny. Hugo: No reaction. Looks a bit too strange and creepy in a way. (And really, they should of left Scorsese name off the trailer if they are trying to get families) Tintin: Some talking.
Movie: Really loved it. Much better then I was expecting it to be. Better then the 3rd and 4th Shrek. Tons of funny moments. A-
(I think this will do better next week given that most thought it comes out next week and the fact the East Coast had no power)

Puss In Boots
Saturday at 4:30 in 2D
about 75% full, roughly 180 people
Trailers
The Lorax- excellent reaction, vivid visuals
Happy Feet 2- decent reaction, but it seems the reaction got stronger the younger the viewer.
Tintin- not much reaction, what there was seemed to be mostly curiosity.
Hugo- Exact opposite of Happy Feet 2, the adults reacted more strongly than the kids.
The movie:
Pretty good reaction with some good laughs. I personally quite enjoyed it. Banderas is so obviously perfect (or is that purrrrfect?) as the voice of Puss that I can't picture anyone else doing it. There was 1 minor character that got a big reaction, even though it was on screen just 3 times totalling maybe 6 seconds, the cat that went "Ohhhhhh!". If they do a sequel they need to keep that cat and expand it's part.

Hey co-refugees! I feel like I was just evicted from the Ritz and had to settle for a basement studio apartment, but I suppose we all feel that way. Anyway, I'm gonna give you guys my abbreviated Crowd Reports from the weekend.
Puss in Boots - LieMAX 3D 4:45PM Friday, October 28th AMC Boston Common 19 & Lie-MAX Theater Capacity: 632 (6% full) Ticket Price: $17.00
TRAILERS: (all forgettable, except for Hugo which looks famazing!)
THE FILM:
I really enjoyed it. Definitely better than Shreks 3 & 4, but not quite as memorable as 1 & 2. I was just pleased there wasn't a single character voiced by Mike Myers. The animation is beautiful, and of course it was really enhanced by the 3D as well. The script was pretty funny (even if predictable), but I was a little concerned about some of the dark themes present in the story.
Definitely worth taking the family to, and I suggest watching in theaters simply for the beautiful array of colors throughout the picture.
THE VERDICT: 8.7 / 10.0, B+
-and-
Anonymous 10:20PM Saturday, October 29th Regal Fenway 13 & RPX Theater Capacity: 200 (20% full, which was impressive considering the snow storm going on outside) Ticket Price: FREE! (cause I'm a very loyal Regal-goer, as all of you know)
TRAILERS: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo- 3rd iteration of a trailer I've seen for this and definitely my favorite one. No reaction. The Vow-nice trailer, definitely smart to use the Dear John/Notebook angle. Some talking from audience. J. Edgar- great trailer, no reaction The Descendants- looks like a good fit for Clooney, no reaction Hugo-looks really cool, no reaction One for the Money- just shoot me
THE FILM:
I was blown away by how good this movie was, particularly because it was directed by Roland "End-the-World" Emmerich. The story from the trailer seemed quite fiction-y, but the execution throughout the film and attention to historical accuracy (*or even inaccuracy in this film's case) is so convincing that I applaud the screenwriters and totally buy the plausibility of their narrative. The acting is great--Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave especially. The effects only work to enhance the story rather than become the story, which is so uncharacteristic of an Emmerich film, and I was really pleased to see. The movie does run a little long and is a little hard to follow in the first half, but it all becomes pretty clear and exciting in the second half. See this if you can, especially if you're a fan of the Elizabethan era.
THE VERDICT: 9.3 / 10.0, A

Before the movie started there was a scene from Jack and Jill (it was part of the 20 minutes so it was not a trailer), I'm worried, kids are laughing like crazy...

Also it looks to be Sony's first number one film since Battle: LA due to Puss in Boots moving up a week. (At first I thought they have no number one for the rest of the year till PIB moved)

Saw two movies for 4 dollars! Great night Thing 2011Movie: I am really sad this flopped at the box office. It was a really really good movie. I liked it a lot more than Paranormal Activity 3. The monster was scary and the movie had plenty of look aways and jumps. I am surprised I liked it since I went in with very very low expectations. B+Puss in BootMovie: Better than the Shrek series but not the best animated film. I enjoyed this film a lot. It was funny and the animation was very well done. I think it should have good legs and hold up well though the holidays especially if Happy Feet 2 turns out to be crappy and Hugo and Arthur Christmas don't an audience (God forbid! since I really want those last two films to do really well). B+

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas in 3D RPX
7:40PM Friday, November 4th Regal Fenway 13 & RPX Theater Capacity: 500+ (10% full; there were two sold out 3D showings the started around the same time as well) Ticket Price: $16.00
TRAILERS:
Project X - Todd Phillips movie about a house party? Looks funny/like total mayhem... the crowd particularly was impressed by the MPAA description before the beginning of the trailer: Crude and Sexual Content Throughout, Nudity, Drugs, Drinking, Pervasive Language, Reckless Behavior, And Mayhem--All Involving Teens. Sherlock Holmes: Book of Shadows - long trailer, but got a decent reaction from crowd. 21 Jump Street - funniest trailer I've seen in a while; it takes Jonah Hill to make Channing Tatum look funny, haha. Excellent reaction! Ghost Protocol - new trailer, looks cool but got no reaction. The Muppets - very funny, LOL trailer and got a great reaction too! The Darkest Hour - some talking from audience, looks like Knowing meets 28 Days Later. Immortals - got a good reaction, but I still don't have a clue what to expect from this film.
THE FILM:
These movies never disappoint. My friends and I probably laughed during about 80% of the film, which was what I'd hoped for. I should definitely note that I was not high when I went to see this, nor have I ever gotten high (my friends and family will vouch for me on this), but this movie was quite clearly a well-constructed pot comedy that catered to a larger audience than one might expect.
The acting was passable, the Christmas music was a little corny, and the whole "New York City for the holidays" theme has been painstakingly overdone. However, these are the only three "bad" things I have to say about the movie. For anyone else in tune with pop culture or the media, Harold & Kumar Christmas will reveal itself as one of the best self-aware films released since the height of the Kevin Smith/Jay & Silent Bob movies. The 3D mockery is worth the price of admission alone. Certain pieces of dialogue are unforgettable and served to entertain my friends and me on our walk home after the movie. Also, a special shout-out to College Humor's Amir, Thomas Lennon, and the movie-daughter for some awesome scene -stealers.
If you were a fan of the first two Harold & Kumar movies, you will LOVE this movie, too. If you missed out on the fun before, there is still plenty of funny in this third film to keep you belly-laughing. If you think you've seen the best of Neil Patrick Harris, guess again. (HAHA) I definitely recommend watching this in theaters/3D, or at the very least with a group of friends, hopefully over a plate of White Castle minis.
THE VERDICT: 8.9 / 10.0, B+

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas 3D ULTRA AVX
6:15 showing, around 150 people
Trailers:
Sherlock Holmes- Same trailer I've seen for months, crowd seemed to like it.
MI 4- New trailer, looks ok but not a lot of crowd reaction.
Project X- Not sure what to make of this. Some reaction from the younger members of the audience.
The Darkest Hour- Looks decent but the premise has a familiar feel to it.
The movie:
First thing that struck me is this had the best 3D since Avatar. Sure they used it to mock 3D many times but it was still really good 3D.
This was damn funny throughout, and that kid repeatedly getting high was priceless. The NPH was just so over the top you couldn't help but laugh.
9/10

Before the movie started there was a scene from Jack and Jill (it was part of the 20 minutes so it was not a trailer), I'm worried, kids are laughing like crazy... I got that same preview before Tower Heist, and though there wasn't much of an audience, people were silent. Possible hope?

In Time
10:00 PM, opening Friday
65% full
Missed previews
Movie: The movie was very interesting in the beginning and looked very promising. Then it lost its originality and went the way of other "run from the bad guy" thrillers. There was one really cool scene where the audience were all like laughing/clapping, when Justin Timberlake was in the hotel room gambling his life away and then stole the dude's gun and killed everyone and won the gamble. I thought the movie was so-so. I wouldn't recommend it.

Tower Heist Nov. 7, 2011 4:10 pm The Philippines Theater capacity: 200. 95% full (non-working holiday here so many people were out)
Trailers
The Devil Inside - some moviegoers got freaked out Happy Feet 2 - good reaction especially the singing/dancing part Jack & Jill - lots of laughter Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - Good reaction especially when the iconic theme song was played The Adventures of Tin Tin - silence There Be Dragons -silence Battleship - some chatter especially the last part with all those big ships showed up Contraband - silence
The Movie
It was OK. Not laugh out loud funny and the heist part lacks excitement. The scene with the "hanging car' was well executed though which had the best reaction from the audiences. OK performances from the cast. Audience responded well with Eddie Murphy, Gabourey Sidibe and Michael Peña
