edit: Not sure if there's anything to work with but is Cache any good to find forum posts? Or there was a site baumer found that had statistics of forums around the web, something like post counts and stuff, maybe they'd have a backup? Just trying to help! Looks like BOM banned crawlers from trawling its forum. www.boxofficemojo.com/robots.txtDoes that mean the archive exists, and they just don't want people hacking into it?

Does that mean the archive exists, and they just don't want people hacking into it? No, archive sites like archive.org simply wouldn't have backed any of that stuff up. Maybe BOM has an archive but I doubt they'll ever release that.

I was really surprised when I heard the news. I think they should have at least told you mods about this. Totally messed up. I hope this bites them in the ass when it's all over.

You copy/paste the video URL and use the "[youtube]" tag. It's much simpler.

I was a member of BOM's forums since November '08. It's only been three years, but I genuinely have some nice memories. Movies are a massive passion of mine, as it is for everyone else there, so to see a forum where a lot of dedicated posters had invested so much time in discussing, analyzing, arguing, and joking get erased without even a breath of a warning, is absolutely appalling. It really is. This is one of the worst customer services I've seen recently online. Mojo was my online-home. It was BY FAR the site I visited the most for the past three years.
All the groups, clubs, insane (but entertaining and memorable) wars, the countless detailed reviews of films, intricate graphs and charts...vanished. Not a single trace of them remains. And that's the saddest part of it by far.
Nearly a decade of history incinerated within seconds, and the owners not warning us beforehand or even apologizing to the ones who clearly were dedicated to it.
A true shame.

I think mine had something to do with the numerous release dates Summit announced. Last thing I remember for sure was starting the Warm Bodies thread and commenting on it.

Still don´t belive it. But it should be possible to make a "life" here right?

We can vent our feelings on IMDB but nobody influential is going to read that. I think we should complain and ask that they reconsider.
How about if we all write or email directly to the directors of Amazon and ask that this decision be reconsidered? I doubt the Amazon directors know about this, or care, but let the Amazon directors pass our complaints to IMDB, so some corporate nerd at IMDB has to deal with it - you never know something might come of it.
Here is a suggestion for a letter or email - anyone is welcome to reproduce it or modify it, if they wish.
Dear (insert name of Amazon director)
I am writing on behalf of thousands of disappointed former users of Box Office Mojo, a website owned by Amazon.com.
I have been a frequent user of the Box Office Mojo website and have been an active member of the online community that has been attached to that site. I have visited the site every day and joined in the online discussions since (insert date).
I doubt that you are aware that in the past week the Box Office Mojo forum has been removed. The massive amount of information on the forum includes millions of posts and thousands of user reviews, charts, exchanges of ideas and discussions. With many thousands of members, that part of the website was the busiest Box Office discussion forum anywhere on the internet. Some users had made many tens of thousands of posts.
The forum has been replaced by a link to IMDB forums, which are, frankly, antiquated, and hard to use, as users have to click on each post to read what it says. Our only practical alternative is to start a new forum elsewhere, a new box office website, and form a new community.
The nature of a successful online forum is one of community, and that community spirit, that goodwill, trust and the bringing together of people has underpinned the most successful online businesses, such as Amazon, Ebay, Facebook and Wikipedia. We had a thriving community, a place where diverse people from around America and from around the whole planet could meet to discuss movies, and also share other aspects of their lives. We are people who share a passion, and our online community was a place where thousands of friendships were formed.
We do not understand why such a successful community would be destroyed. We ask that you please reconsider this discussion to close our forum and if that is not viable that you at least consider letting us have access to the millions of posts that were contained on the forums – these posts represent an important part of the lives of the thousands of users.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yep it sucks to know that all the work people put into each threads are gone. The Archives alone took days of my time and I am kinda pissed a little lol. I was actually about to update it this last weekend very glad I did not. Just feels like a lot of my time wasted. I felt and I think I can speak for Impact and Shawn as well that the fourms were headed in the right direction being orginaized and such. They were the cleanest that I have ever seen them as well. Everything was looking really good from a normal view of the fourms. Hopefully we can keep up our energy here as well. Even as a Users I would say the are by the far the best organized and cleanest forums out there.

This is just a damn shame. I first wandered on BOM in late June 2006, and still remember how cool it was to view the weekend actuals chart with 100+ movies being tracked. A week later was the week DMC blew up, and from there on there were hardly days when I wouldn't visit BOM.
I joined the forums year and a half ago, and while I'm hardly a regular (I was posting for two full summers because I had 24 hours of free time, but hardly in any other time of the year), haven't been there for as long as most of you guys, I still regularly had a great time posting and reading others' discussions. And I can appreciate how most of you feel right now, the forums having been a major, or even not so major, part of your lives. This is a very sad and horribly unexpected situation.
After several days of BOM not working or working, frankly, like shit, I remembered this forum some of you posted about when BOM was off back in spring - I've never been here before, but remembered the name and felt I needed to check it out. Glad to see quite a lot of BOM regulars here and while I, once again, won't be able to be a regular while I'm studying, I'll make sure to come here at least a couple of times a week. I hope everything works out well in the long term and I wish you guys all the luck in the world.
