Fellow Box Office Mojo Refugees (BOMRs),
First off, thank you to EVERYONE for the overwhelming response to and support of this board. I originally made it earlier this year only for the purpose of serving as a back-up site to commune when Mojo was down for any reason.
Last week, Mojo did go down...only this time, it didn't come back. And it won't. Not the forums or the Derby, anyway.
After yesterday's announcement that Mojo will not be bringing back the forums that many of us have called our online home for years, its time to move forward and keep out community together -- permanently.
That is why, after very careful consideration, I am excited to announce that we are going to launch a message board over at Box Office Theory.com
The response toward the options given of integrating with another forum or starting with a new, clean slate has been overwhelmingly one-sided. If it is this wish of the Mojo community to not integrate with World of KJ or Filmgasm, then I will not ask anyone to do so. Likewise, I also will not ask anyone to *not* post there. Ultimately, all of our sites are on the same team.
I've also informed Scott and Karl (harry at Filmgasm, and Eagle at KJ) of this decision. I was discussing the option of merging with either one of them, but ultimately I think it would be a disservice to their communities as well as all of you guys to make a move that isn't a very popular one.
That said, I also don't believe this should result in any kind of forum war. Co-existence is key, and with a clean slate we not only have the chance to reconvene as the remnants of Mojo but establish a new, permanent identity. Of course, anyone that posts on other sites will always be welcome (both at this board, and the new board on the way).
I would ask of everyone that if and when new members begin joining the site, they be treated the same as anyone else. It is very important that no one treat the new forum as being exclusive to anyone. I won't allow that. It may be founded by former loyal Mojo posters, but this new beginning is for everyone if they wish it to be. At the same time, if you wish to post at Filmgasm or World of KJ, that is anyone's right to do so. Personally, I know I'll still be keeping in touch with at least a few folks on all of these boards.
Watch Box Office Theory.com, or @boxofficetheory on Twitter for more details on the new forum as they arrive. I'll also be posting them in here as well. It is my hope that we can have the new board up as quickly as possible, but I am still fine-tuning the plans.
Also, if you are able to contribute anything at all, please send me a private message on here. Primarily, we'll be looking for a few small donations just to help cover some of the upfront costs. Some of them are already taken care of, but even just a little more wouldn't hurt. Otherwise, if you have any experience in setting up message boards and/or moderating, let me know and we could probably use some help there as well.
Thank you all again for your patience as things get moving, and I'll keep you updated as frequently as possible.
