Real Steel has quietly become a bit of a foreign hit over the past month—the robot boxing movie added another $10.7 million for a total of $127.2 million from 38 territories. According to distributor Walt Disney Pictures, that's just 61 percent of their overseas potential, meaning Real Steel could be on its way to around $200 million total. It will move one step closer to that goal when it expands in to China this weekend.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes extended its reign overseas with another $7.5 million. Most of this comes from China, where it eased 26 percent to $6.6 million. Overall, the movie has made $292.8 million overseas, and it shouldn't have much of a problem closing north of $300 million.
Great for both!

taking a look it still has China, Japan, Italy, Spain, and many other countries left so it looks like it probably can. Nice to see it make up for its rather weak domestic performance with good foreign earnings. Definitely not another Cowboys & Aliens here

is it me or is Tin Tin may not even reach 400M? It opened in all of its major earning potential countries and it's only at 125M?

Tintin vs Smurfs market comparison (at similar points of time)
UK : $16.4M / $12.7M France: $39.8M / $12.3M Spain: $18.1M / $8.6M Germany: $10.5M / $14.2M Italy: $4.1M / $8.3M Beligium: $6.1M / $4.8M Sweden: $6.9M / $2.1M Denmark: $3.6M / $2.0M

I don't see any reason whatsoever to worry about 400M. In fact it is still heading for 500M+.

Yep 500m looks good, the staggered release can be confusing. It still has plenty of markets to open in.
Personally I am thinking 20m in Australia.

Tintin adds $41m to surge past $125m internationallywww.screendaily.com/news/distribution/tintin-adds-41m-to-surge-past-125m-internationally/5034327.articleA further $40.8m for the family adventure mostly through Sony pushed it to $125.3m while Constantin’s The Three Musketeers is several swishes of the blade away from $100m through Summit International licensees. Oh I see. Great then. Was THE SMURFS strong in Asia? It did well in Middle East and China. But Japan did only $3m. Tintin should get a very healthy lead from there (Spielberg last 3 blockbusters, i.e. Indy 4 ($53m), WotW ($54m) and Minority Report ($43m) were huge there). South and South-East Asia should also see Tintin beating Smurfs. For example, Smurfs did only $1m in India but Tintin should do $5m+.

A sequel was almost certain to be made, unless the movie flopped big time. Even $500m would be enough for SS and PJ to go forward with the sequel.
It is the second sequel, that Spielberg has said will depend on the outcome of the first two films.

400M was needed when the budget was 130M. Now its closer to 175M... I would say 600M WW is a reasonable amount for a sequel. It really all depends on how well it does in the States.

I think this is a more important piece of information. Paramount and Sony, which are evenly splitting expenses and profits, are investing even more money in the project. The movie cost $150 million to $175 million after tax credits, according to people close to the production. The studios will also spend more than $100 million to market and release the movie worldwide.
Upping the movie's high stakes, about 30% of "Tintin" revenue will go directly to Spielberg and Jackson, making it even more difficult for the studios to reap a big profit.Take the 175m budget after Tax (Was probably something like 250m+ before the credits), give it a reasonable 130m marketing budget and the total amount spent will be around 300m. Applying the 55% studio rule it will need 600m WW to break even. Not even factoring in PJ and Spielbergs crazy 30% of revenue. If the film makes 600m, 300m goes to the theaters, 90m to PJ and Speilberg and approx 200m to the studios. 600m would be a success for the film, but not so impressive to the studios who are key in there being a sequel.

With home media sales and rentals, studios will get a healthy profit on their investment, even with $600m from ticket sales. A sequel will then most likely happen.

It'll get a sequel, even if the studios don't necessarily profit off the first one. $600m is nothing to scoff at- they'll just be more careful with the budgeting for #2.
